My Mac Mini
As many of you already know and are probably tired of hearing me talk about it, I got a mac mini over the weekend. My experience up to this point with macs has been nil other than the imacs we used in high school (1996-1999) and I was not too impressed to say the least. Since then, however, Apple has come out with Mac OS X which I have heard great things about from both Windows and Linux users alike. Having used linux extensively over the last year as part of my job as a systems/network administrator, I was quickly enamored by the fact that OS X is based off of BSD.
The mac mini I got came with an 80GB hard drive but after awhile, I realized this was not nearly enough capacity to use the mini for what I intended — editing video, recording music, programming, and using it as an HTPC. Scouring the deals pages on the net, I found a 300GB firewire hd on sale at bestbuy for $150 after rebate. The froogle low was $220. Not bad I thought so I went ahead and bought it. Turns out, the hd is roughly the same size as the mac mini so it’s not too intrusive when I stack them up together. (see picture below)
I’m considering buying another 300gb hd to stack on top of this but let’s wait and see how poker goes this month.

Once you get your hdtv hooked up that’ll be sweet. It’s nice to know though that I’m not the only one you keep raving on and on and on about this to.
Dude, the ext. HD is bigger than the mac itself. You should have just upgraded the internal HD to save space, and it would have been cheaper.
Cheaper? The mac mini doesn’t use a standard hard drive. To get a 300gb hd that size would cost a small fortune.
